US jobless claims fell to their lowest since mid-July. Layoff announcements overall were down 18% month on month. AI adoption keeps climbing by every survey going. On paper, this was a good week. Then you look at what actually happened in it: Nike, Workday and Citi all confirmed job cuts, a former Ford employee is suing the company for allegedly using rigged performance ratings to disguise a layoff programme, and tech-sector layoff announcements jumped 77% in September alone. The numbers improved. The people underneath them did not.
